iPad 2017 vs iPad Air2: Apple schickt ein neues iPad ins Rennen und ordnet seine Tablet-Produktpalette ein wenig neu. Durch den Wegfall des Namenzusatzes „Air2“ bekommen Kunden nun bessere Klarheit bei den iPad-Modellen. Die Bezeichnung iPad PRO, iPad und iPad mini spiegeln jetzt auch die Wertigkeit, Größe und Performance der Tablets wieder. Das ist eine Sicht auf das neue iPad. Eine Andere ist, dass es den Namenszusatz „Air“ auch gar nicht mehr verdient, weil es schwerer geworden ist als sein Vorgänger. Insgesamt ist das Produktupdate sehr verwunderlich, denn eine klare Verbesserung ist nicht zu sehen. Auch lässt Apple eine Innovation komplett vermissen.
Mein erster Gedanke war, jetzt wird die Kuh gemolken, denn zweifelsohne sind die iPads neben dem iPhone die Top-Seller im Produktsortiment. Allein die Änderungen beim Display lassen eine starke Herstellungskostensenkung vermuten. Allerdings muss man Apple auch zu Gute halten, dass der Preis des Einstiegsmodells um 50,-€ gesenkt wurde und sie den Speicher mit 32GB verdoppeln. Dennoch ist ein Blick auf die technischen Daten von Interesse, denn vielleicht kommen in den kommenden Tagen iPad Air2 Schnäppchen zum Vorschein. Im Apple Store ist das iPad Air2 jedenfalls schon verschwunden.

Inwiefern die bessere CPU Performance des A9 sich bemerkbar macht, lässt sich noch nicht sagen. Für das aktuelle iOS10 wird der Unterschied zwischen den Prozessoren definitiv keine Relevanz haben. Da beide CPUs im oberen Drittel der Benchmark-Welt ihre Platzierung finden, ist im Moment nicht davon auszugehen, dass dem A8X im Laufe der Zeit die Luft ausgeht.
Wesentliche Schwächen des neuen iPads 2017:
Das Display
Das neue Display erhält keine vollständige Laminierung der Oberfläche und lässt die Antireflex-Beschichtung vermissen. Damit belegt das iPad in der neuen Produktpalette den letzten Platz.
Das Gewicht
Das neue iPad ist ca. 32g schwerer und zudem auch noch 6mm dicker. Klingt im ersten Moment nicht viel, aber kann beim Halten über längeren Zeitraum ein entscheidender Nachteil sein. Man denke nur an die Situation, wenn man Abends im Bett noch mit dem iPad surft.
Kamera
Die Kamera ist zwar nicht schlechter geworden, hat aber auch kein Update erhalten. Im Vergleich zum iPad Pro (9,7) ist die Kamera beider iPads deutlich schlechter. Hier hat Apple in meinen Augen es verpasst nachzubessern.
Vorteile des neuen iPads 2017:
Preis
Der Preis wurde im Vergleich zum gesenkten Preis des iPad Air2 nochmal um 40€ gesenkt. Somit kostet das Einstiegsmodell 399,- €, was für ein vollwertiges iPad ohne Frage ein Spitzenpreis ist.
Fazit iPad 2017 vs iPad Air2:
Laut den ersten bekannten Daten kann man bei einem guten Angebot getrost zum iPad Air2 greifen. Für mich ist hier der Unterschied beim Display das ausschlaggebende Feature wo das Air2 dem neuen iPad 2017 einfach zu deutlich überlegen ist. Natürlich muss man noch abwarten, was aktuelle RAM-Daten ergeben und wie sich das Display im Alltag schlägt. Dennoch macht man mit dem iPad Air2 keinen Fehler, vor allem nicht, wenn man einen guten Preis bekommen sollte.
